Job Description

McCain is currently seeking a dedicated Safety Officer in Mpumalanga. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to play a crucial role in leading safety initiatives, enhancing programs, and ensuring compliance.

Job Purpose:
As a Safety Officer, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and support the safety, health, and environmental function at our Delmas plant. You will collaborate with stakeholders locally and globally to maintain a strong safety department, drive continuous improvements, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation. Your role will involve leading initiatives to achieve zero waste, zero accidents, and total employee engagement, while also maintaining ISO 14001 certification and other applicable standards.

Key Areas of Performance:

  1. Coordinate and facilitate monthly SHE meetings to address safety, health, and environmental concerns.
  2. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure an effective and professional SHE department.
  3. Proactively maintain Key Elements of Safety modules, ISO 14001 accreditation, and other audits.
  4. Lead the Behavioural Observation System (BOS) to identify and address safety hazards.
  5. Support security, clinic, and laundry functions at the Delmas plant.
  6. Manage the activities of SHE representatives, first aiders, and fire fighters, fostering a safety-conscious culture.
  7. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, McCain policies, and safety systems.
  8. Conduct training and coaching for contractors on safety and environmental regulations.
  9. Participate in improvement activities through McCain Competitive Edge function.
  10. Implement corrective and preventive actions to ensure compliance with safety and environmental laws.
  11. Perform safety inspections, incident investigations, and submit reports to regulatory authorities.

Requirements for Safety Officer:

  1. Diploma in Safety Management.
  2. Grade 12 or equivalent.
  3. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Safety, Health & Environmental field.
  4. Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
  5. Certification in SAMTRAC or equivalent ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, HIRA, Incident investigation, Construction.
