The scope of careers in this sector spans services targeted at businesses and private individuals. From large financial services and consulting companies to hair salons. An indication of the breadth of economic activity that occurs within this sector.

With this in mind, the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) sought to split these sectors across various SETAs. Some service qualifications and occupations fall within the Banking, Insurance, and Social Services SETAs. All other services that fall outside the scope of the sectors mentioned above fall within the Services SETA mandate.

If you would like your information to be passed on to Training Providers, Employers, and institutions that offer training and education opportunities, you will need to register online to create your account. Complete the registration process by entering the following details:
1. Username – this can be any name of your choice.
2. Password – any password of your choice that is safe and secure.
3. Email – your email address which the Services SETA will use to communicate with you.
4. ID number – Your SA ID number, as it appears on your SA ID document

What Should I Know

What You Need to Know – Duties and Rights

Upon enrollment in a learning program as a participant, it is essential to comprehend your obligations and responsibilities. The learner agreements established with employers are governed by the Skills Development Act, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, and the Unemployment Insurance Act. These legislative frameworks delineate the duties of both learners and employers involved in a learning program.

Individuals, regardless of their employment status, are eligible to engage in a learning program. For those who are employed, registration for leadership can be done through your organization or within the relevant sector. Conversely, if you are unemployed, you may seek placement through the Services SETA learner portal or by contacting a Services SETA accredited provider in your vicinity.

The Learner Has the Right to:

  • Receive an induction to the workplace-based learning program;
  • Be educated and trained under the workplace-based learning program;
  • Access to the required resources for all required curriculum components of the work-based learning program;
  • Be assessed internally as specified and have access to the assessment results of the workplace-based learning program;
  • Have access to final external summative assessments as specified in the assessment specification;
  • If successful, be awarded a certificate of competence by the relevant body;
  • In the case of an unemployed learner, receive the agreed workplace-based learning program allowance for the duration of the learning program.
  • Raise grievances in writing with the SETA concerning any shortcomings in the quality of the education and training under the workplace-based learning program.

Must:

  • Carry out all related work experience activities specified in the workplace-based learning program;
  • Comply with the employer’s workplace policies and procedures;
  • Be available for, and participate in, all knowledge, practical skills, and work experience activities required by the workplace-based learning programme;
  • Complete timesheets and projects, and participate in all internal assessment activities that are required for the final external summative assessment at the end of the workplace-based learning program;
  • Be available for the final external summative assessment of occupational competence on the date and place scheduled.
